Voting Reforms Pass Senate

Apr 21, 2023

As MLC’s Communications and Social Media Manager, Liz Gullett keeps clients informed and up-to-date on the goings on in Lansing and the Capitol.

The Senate took its first steps to implement election reform legislation related to Proposal 2 of 2022. Introduced by Senator Paul Wojno (D-Warren), a bill was passed by the Senate allowing for absentee voter ballots for military members, their spouses, and voting-age dependents to be counted if they are signed and dated by Election Day and received up to six days after the election.

This is the first bill to pass out of the Senate to implement Proposal 2’s elections reforms. The Senate Election and Ethics Committee is working on an extensive bill package to implement a number of the other changes passed by voters last fall. The bill was referred to the House Elections Committee for consideration.
