Tribal, State, and Federal Judges Attend Fall Meeting

Nov 22, 2019

Members of Michigan’s tribal, state, and federal court systems assembled this week at the Michigan Hall of Justice in Lansing for the fall meeting of the Michigan Tribal State Federal Judicial Forum. The meeting, which coincides with the national Native American Heritage Month, was hosted by Justice Megan Cavanagh, who serves as the Michigan Supreme Court’s liaison on tribal issues.

Meetings highlights include:

    • Updates from the Michigan Joint Task Force on Jail and Pretrial Incarceration and the Justice for All Task Force
    • A report from the Michigan Association of Treatment Court Professionals
    • A report from the Governor’s Office on Executive Tribal Consultation

The Michigan Tribal State Federal Judicial Forum consists of tribal judges from each of Michigan’s 12 federally recognized tribes, 10 state court judges, and federal judges and officials. It was established in 2014 by the Michigan Supreme Court.
