This week, Governor Rick Snyder named Judge Kurtis T. Wilder to the Michigan Supreme Court. Prior to this appointment, Judge Wilder served on the Michigan Court of Appeals and served as Chief Judge of the Washtenaw County Circuit Court. Before taking the bench, Judge Wilder was in private practice. He earned both his law and undergraduate degrees from the University of Michigan.
The appointment fills the vacancy created by the retirement of former Justice Robert Young. Judge Wilder will serve the remainder of his term and will need to run for a full eight-year term in November 2018. His appointment is not subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
