The Michigan Department of Education (MDE) announced one additional site has been added to the list of public input sessions on the proposed state standards for Social Studies. The additional input opportunity will be on Thursday, August 30, from 6-8 p.m., at Saginaw High School.
This will bring to a total of 18 Listen & Learn session the department has offered, in addition to an online public comment opportunity. Input can still be provided online through September 30, at www.michigan.gov/mde.
When the four-month public comment period ends on September 30, MDE’s panel of experts compromised of authors of the original draft standards; focus group members; social studies educators from across the state; a representative from the Michigan Department of Civil Rights; and representatives of diverse populations in Michigan, will review the comments and make adjustments to the recommended standards that will go to the State Board of Education to consider for adoption.
