This week, the State Board of Education elected co-presidents, one from each party, as the board is currently split 4-4 on partisan lines. Elected by their colleagues, Casandra Ulbrich and Richard Zeile will serve as the new co-presidents of the board. Also elected today, Tom McMillin as treasurer and Michelle Fecteau as secretary.
Casandra Ulbrich (D) serves as Vice President for College Advancement and Community Relations at Macomb Community College. She holds a Ph.D. and M.A. from Wayne State University, a B.A. from the University of Michigan, and an A.A. from St. Clair County Community College. She was first elected to the board in 2006 and re-elected in 2014 to serve a second eight-year term expiring January 1, 2023.
Richard Zeile (R) has served as pastor and headmaster at St. John’s Lutheran Church and School, as well as adjunct professor of Education at Concordia University. He earned a B.A. from Valparaiso University, an M.A. from the University of Michigan’s Rackham School, an M.T.S. at Harvard Divinity School, a M.Div. from Concordia Theological Seminary, and D. Min. from Detroit’s Ecumenical Theological Seminary.
