For the first time since the Granholm administration, the Senate voted to reject a gubernatorial appointment. On Thursday, the Senate voted 20-16 to oppose the appointment by Governor Gretchen Whitmer of Anna Mitterling to the Natural Resources Commission. The vote was near party lines with all Republicans, minus one, voting to reject the appointment. Ms. Mitterling was appointed In December 2019 by the governor and the Senate had 60 days to consider her appointment. She is a biology professor at Lansing Community College.
The Natural Resources Commission is a seven-member public body with the authority to regulate the taking of game and sportfish, designate species, and authorize the establishment of the first open season for animals. They conduct monthly, public meetings throughout the state.
