Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey (R-Clarklake) announced the Senate is leading a coalition to address business needs as they deal with the economic impact of the coronavirus, led by Senator Ken Horn (R-Frankenmuth). The goal of the coalition is to organize an approach of immediate recovery needs and long-term sustainable changes for the next time Michigan faces a similar situation. Efforts are underway to recommend relief steps the state can take in the days ahead. “The business community, especially small businesses and those experiencing mandatory closures, will be feeling the negative effects of the coronavirus for many months to come,” said Senator Horn. “In a crisis such as this, it is our job as elected leaders to do what we can to help those in serious need. Unemployment insurance expansion must be attainable, state business tax payments must be flexible, and rules and regulations must be addressed in a nimble fashion. Tough decisions have been made, and we recognize that both employers and employees are going to be affected in huge ways.”
