On Tuesday, voters in Flint cast their ballots in the primary race for the open 34th House seat. The seat has been open since former Representative Sheldon Neeley (D) resigned following his election as Mayor of Flint. His wife, Cynthia Neeley, beat nine other candidates to become the Democratic nominee for the seat. The seat swings heavily to the left and she is all but assured a victory in the general election on March 10.
Ms. Neeley owns a beauty salon in Flint and has severed on multiple community boards. She attended Mott Community College.
