Primary Election Overview: 19th House District

Through the primary election on August 7, on the MLC Blog we will be highlighting races for which the primary is the key race due to the voter base.  Candidate’s website and professional information is listed when available.

District Overview

The 19th House District is located Wayne County and includes a portion of Livonia.

Commentary

Representative Laura Cox (R) opted to run for the State Senate instead of a third term in this House seat. The district has a 55% Republican base, but the Democratic primary winner may have a shot at this seat in November.

Democratic Candidates:

  • Dan Centers – Development officer at Madonna University, Livonia School Board member, former teacher and Boy Scouts of American executive
  • Laurie Pohutsky – Angela Hospice volunteer

Republican Candidate:

  • Brian Meakin – Livonia City Councilman, small business owner
