According to numbers released this week by the Department of Technology, Management, and Budget, October’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate rose by two-tenths of a percentage point to 4.5%. Michigan’s workforce last month advanced by 8,000 and the number of unemployed increased by 9,000. The year-over-year rate was half a percentage point below the October 2016 rate. During October 2017, the national unemployment rate was 4.1%.
In the Detroit-Warren-Dearborn market, the October 2017 seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 3.9%, an increase of three-tenths of a percentage point from the prior month. However, last month’s rate was 1.6% lower than the October 2016 unemployment rate.
