In ninety-days Michigan residents will no longer need to worry if they have their paper proof of registration when they are pulled over by the police. Last week, Governor Rick Snyder signed into law a bill allowing Michigan motorists to provide an electronic proof of vehicle registration to law enforcement officers. This law keeps up with evolving technology and modernizes the way registration validation occurs during a traffic stop. Since many people rely heavily on their smartphones to store important information, this allows a person when they are pulled over by police to either allow the officer to take the device to their vehicle or allow the driver to email or text the documentation to the officer. Similar legislation was signed into law in 2016 that allows electronic proof of vehicle insurance.
