Two new developments have occurred in Michigan’s fight against opioid addiction.
Michigan’s Attorney General, Dana Nessel, and 38 state Attorney Generals are attempting to persuade Congress to remove barriers placed by the federal government that bar health care providers from treating opioid disorders. A copy of the letter that Nessel and 38 other attorney generals sent to Congress can be found here.
Michigan has also released a study of Michigan counties that collected their per capita distribution of opioid pills from 2006-2012. Out of the fifteen highest per-capita counties, 3 were in the Upper Peninsula, and 11 were in the top third of the lower peninsula. This link contains an article in which a search will allow the user to find retailers in their city or county, and see how many opioids that retailer distributed between 2006 and 2012.
