This week, Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed a $150 million a supplemental appropriations bill for the current FY. The legislation, initially passed by the House and Senate a couple of weeks ago, provided funds for a wide swath of programs, including some that the governor had vetoed out of the FY19-20 budget last fall. However, since COVID-19 cases have dramatically increased from when the legislature passed the legislation, the governor vetoed nearly $80 million in spending from the supplemental in order to reprioritize those funds to help the state combat the virus. Unlike last year’s vetoes, the governor worked with legislative leaders and they agreed to reprioritize funding.
