Governor Rick Snyder today announced the appointment of Elizabeth Clement to the Michigan Supreme Court. She currently serves as chief legal counsel to the governor, prior to that she was deputy chief of staff and deputy legal counsel in the executive office. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University and her law degree from the MSU College of Law. She fills the vacancy created by the resignation of Justice Joan Larsen, who was appointed By President Trump to the 6th Circuit Court of Appeals and confirmed earlier this month. Justice Clement will need to seek election in 2018 for a full eight-year term. Her appointment is not subject to the advice and consent of the Michigan Senate.
The Governor also announced his new chief legal counsel and senior counsel. Serving as chief legal counsel will be Travis Weber, who currently serves as the senior legal counsel to the governor. Frederick Headen will join the legal office as senior legal counsel to Governor Snyder.
