General Election Overview: 11th U.S. House District

Through the general election on November 3, the MLC Blog will be highlighting races generally considered swing seats, ones either party could win because of the voter base.  Candidate’s website and professional information is listed when available.


The 11th U.S. House District is located in Southeast Michigan and includes portions of Oakland and Wayne Counties.


Congresswoman Haley Stevens is running for her second term in office. After her election in 2018, she became the first Democrat to represent this seat since it was reconfigured in 2003. Congresswoman Stevens serves on the following committees:

    • House Committee on Education and Labor
      • Subcommittee on Health, Employment, Labor and Pensions
      • Subcommittee on Workforce Protections
    • House Committee on Science, Space and Technology
      • Subcommittee on Research and Technology, Chairwoman

Historically, the district had a 56% Republican base but has come to middle in recent elections. In 2016 President Trump received 52.30% of the vote, but in 2018 Governor Whitmer received 53.19% of the vote.

Democratic Candidate:

    • Congresswoman Haley Stevens – Congresswoman, worked under the Obama administration at the Office of Recovery for Automotive Communities and Workers and the White House Office of Manufacturing Policy. Additionally, she served as policy advisor in the Economic Development Administration.
