Communities within Marquette County, in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, will receive investments as part of the Every Bottle Back initiative. American Beverage and the Michigan Soft Drink Association, together with The Recycling Partnership, are working to reduce the industry’s plastic footprint and keep bottles out of nature. The latest investment includes $68,000 to provide free higher-capacity recycling carts and recycling education materials to 4,450 households in Marquette County. The investment is expected to yield over eight million new pounds of recyclable materials over 10 years. It is the sixth of 12 initial projects the industry has committed to fund.
Launched in 2019, the Every Bottle Back initiative designed to improve the collection of plastic bottles so they can be remade into new ones. For more information, please visit www.EveryBottleBack.org.
The announcement comes at a time that Governor Whitmer and the Legislature are working to raise Michigan’s current 15% recycling rate to 30% by 2025 with an end goal thereafter of 45% annually.
