The House Tax Policy Committee reported legislation that would put into law the mandate that online sellers collect the 6% state sales tax on all purchases. This proposal would codify into law the state practice that began in October 2018, following the U.S. Supreme Court decision, commonly known as the Wayfair ruling. Under the legislation, out-of-state retailers selling to customers in Michigan would collect and send the 6% sales tax to the state. The measure applies to retailers with at least $100,000 in annual sales or more than 200 separate transactions. The bill package has been referred to the House Ways and Means Committee for consideration.
